Outline Theatre, based at Yiewsley, received a grant of £8,000 from Hillingdon Community Trust to employ a director for Outline Theatre, a community theatre group that has over 50 local members. The grant enabled the group to do 10 performances over a year. The grant has enabled Outline to provide an important creative and social hub in the heart of the community, working to build confidence, skills and teamwork of its members.

Audience comments included, ‘great culture, climate and company,’ ‘... in a word, brilliant. Lovely day, great people. The mainly young cast can put on a great show.’

Hillingdon Community Trust is part funding Hillingdon Play Association to run a new project which encourages local people to sign up to become 'play ambassadors'. The Volunteering in Play scheme, provides a programme of up to six weeks’ training, during which participants learn the benefits of the different types of play and are then encouraged to spread the message in their neighbourhoods.

The Trust funded Stockley Academy to run an outdoor education programme for students.  Students attend team-building activities over one day at school and some are later selected for outward bound trips to Derbyshire and for Snowdon.  Since introducing the programme, Stockley has seen marked improvements in attendance and behaviour in the students participating.

“Overall these trips have been invaluable to our students, many of our students have never left the borough so being able to offer trips that present so many new opportunities and skills is a life changing experience.  We have seen such a change in our students, their confidence and self-esteem has risen and the students who before were very quiet and would often go through the day unnoticed are now a lot more engaged with school life.”
